Dubai
For some reasons, my post was disappeared and it only sent my attachment without the text.
Anyway, one of my Malaysian classmates/good friends starts to work in Dubai this year. He will be there for 2 years contract. According to him, even though for someone who come from an Arabic country, he had quite a cultural shock there, and needed a BIG adjustment. A few facts from him.
- He can’t skype. It’s banned in UAE countries!
- All international students (including m’sian) will have to send their children to an international school, and the fees for pre-school is about RM 6,000 per mth.
- Accommodation is about RM7,000 per mth for a studio apartment, and you have to pay the rent for the entire year!
- Hotel apartment (fully furnish) costs around RM18,000 per month.
- Honda Civic new is only RM65,000
- Daily basic meal is about RM60 to RM100 per day
- He works from Sunday to Thursday (Insha’Allah!), and goes to Church on Fridays!
I wish to visit him while he is there, provided that I can save up enough to travel over there, of course.
Japanese Prefer English Paper for Wrapping
Bought some flowers for my wife at a florist nearby. Autumn Gentian and Willow Gentian, and Patrinia Scabiosifolia as decoration. The shop then asked me if I would like some roses for free, which she said, it will still blossom if I keep them in the water. That naturally keeps me back to the shop next time, huh?
She then wrapped it up with newspaper. It was The Financial Times, which gave a different mood to the flowers I bought all of a sudden. The area I live in doesn’t sell English newspaper, and most of the florists don’t use Japanese newspaper to wrap the flowers normally. Flowers bought for cemetery purposes might be wrapped with Japanese papers, I do hear that. It’s become a trend in this country, I guess, for flowers you buy for home decorations or for presents use English papers but never Japanese papers.

The Making of Postcard
At the local city hall just two blocks from the house, there was some event going on last week, which I can’t remember what it was all about. Anyway, we went for lunch, on the way back home, we saw the event, so we went in.
There comes the postcard.
There was this booth used the recycled paper from used milk carton to make postcards. Let the kids experienced it. It didn’t talke long. But, it didn’t make the kids really understand the concept. Perhaps this is for primary school kids more than for kindergardeners.
Is this called filtering?
